Schema markup for business websites

Use structured data to describe what is truly visible on the site.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Schema can identify an organisation, service, article or breadcrumb to eligible systems. It should mirror visible content and must not invent addresses, ratings or reviews.

01

Choose relevant types

Organisation or LocalBusiness can describe identity and service area without making up a street address. Service can describe an actual offer; Article can identify a genuine guide and its author.

  • Organisation / LocalBusiness
  • Service
  • Article and BreadcrumbList
  • WebSite
02

Match the page

Use accurate URLs, titles and descriptions. Do not add review stars, prices, availability or FAQs solely to chase visual search features.

Validate structured data and inspect rendered HTML after changes. Schema improves machine-readable clarity; it is not a ranking or AI-citation guarantee.

03

Keep records in sync

When service names, routes or contact details change, update both visible copy and structured data. Consistency is the real benefit.

Questions worth asking

Do I need FAQ schema for every FAQ?

No. A visible FAQ can be useful without structured data, and markup does not guarantee a rich result.

Advice here is general; the appropriate implementation depends on the people, systems and constraints involved.
